I LOVE avocado! At my house it is a weekly must have, kind of like "milk, bread, coffee and avocado.." It is our go to for topping sourdough bread or a cracker, piling high onto corn chips, as a dip, a side dish for falafel, in a smoothie, avocado mousse and of course just eating it straight up with a spoon!

Allegra and I are particularly obsessed. So you can imagine our excitement when we found an avocado farmer selling the best looking, huge, hass avocados for only 50c each (when the supermarkets still had them for $2.50+ each!) Yep, I filled up the front seat of the car and we got our fill of avocado for the next two weeks! But this over supply of avocado also prompted a little experimentation and I'm SO glad I did because it led to using doTERRA's food grade essential oils.

Allegra was teething and wanted something soft, I wanted to make her mash exciting so I added in cilantro and lime doTERRA essential oils. It tasted so good I had to make more because I may have eaten most of her lunch...

Since then, avocado mash and guacamole with essential oils have been regulars on our menu. I guess you can most definitely experiment with different doTERRA essential oils, that are safe for ingesting, (like lemon, lemongrass, basil, fennel or rosemary) but if you know me, I find something that works and then I stick with it. 

AVOCADO MASH

1-2 AVOCADOS
1 DROP OF CILANTRO ESSENTIAL OIL (DOTERRA IS SAFE FOR FOOD USE)
2 DROPS OF LIME ESSENTION OIL (DOTERRA IS SAFE FOR FOOD USE)
2 TEASPOONS OF FRESH LEMON JUICE 
SALT AND PEPPER TO TASTE


SCRAPE OUT AVOCADO FLESH INTO A BOWL AND SMASH WITH A FORK. ADD IN THE ESSENTIAL OILS, SALT AND PEPPER AND STIR TO COMBINE.

HOLY GUACAMOLE 

1-2 AVOCADOS
1-2 CLOVES A GARLIC MINCED
2 TABLESPOONS OF RED ONION CHOPPED FINELY
1-2 ROMA TOMATOES DICED
2 TABLESPOONS OF FRESH HERBS (PARSLEY, BASIL OR CILANTRO)
2 TEASPOONS OF FRESH LEMON JUICE
1 DROP OF doTERRA CILANTRO ESSENTIAL OIL  
2 DROPS OF doTERRA LIME ESSENTION OIL
SALT AND PEPPER TO TASTE 

SCRAPE OUT AVOCADO FLESH INTO A BOWL AND SMASH WITH A FORK. COMBINE ALL OF THE OTHER INGREDIENTS AND STIR GENTLY. ADD IN THE ESSENTIAL OILS, SALT AND PEPPER AND STIR TO COMBINE.

TIPS

 

* If you are going to eat all of your mash in one sitting the lemon juice is not really needed. It tastes great but is useful to stop the avocado from going brown (oxidation)

* Start off with a smaller amount of essential oil than you think you will need! They are a very concentrated source of the herb/fruit and usually one drop is enough. With some oils you may only need a toothpick swirl (dip toothpick into the essential oil and stir through avocado)

* Please be sure to do your own research on ingesting essential oils. I have researched and read widely and I do occasionally ingest doTERRA essential oils because I am confident in using them safely for myself and my family. There is a difference in essential oil brands and I know that most are NOT suitable for food consumption.
